THE NATIONAL SCHOOL FOUNDATION ASSOCIATION
ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  April 30, 2008

DES MOINES, IOWA – Supported and developed by the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) since January 2005, the National School Foundation Association (NSFA) will soon become an independent non-profit organization.

Under the direction of Dr. David Else, NSFA originated at the University of Northern Iowa through a department of education sponsored website.  In 2005 Ron Rice, Executive Director of IASB, and several other state association executive directors were interested in evolving the original website into a national association to educate and support K-12 school foundation development.

NSFA’s transition to independent non-profit status started yesterday with seating an eight-member transition board of directors, including five new members joining three current NSFA board members:

Chair:  Dan McCormick, McCormick Group, SC
Vice Chair:  Larry Levin, Ladue Education Foundation, MO
Secretary-Treasurer:  Barbara Bartle, Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools, NE
Stacy Carlson, Helios Education Foundation, FL
Bob Christenson, Marshalltown Community Schools, IA
David Else, Institute for Educational Leadership, IA
Krina Lemons, Salem-Keizer Education Foundation, OR
Ron Rice, Iowa Association of School Boards, IA
Jim Sandner, Brokers Risk Placement Services, IL

Len Cockman, former executive director of NSFA, has resigned his leadership role as executive director and retains his current duties as Director of HR with IASB. Jim Collogan will serve as interim Executive Director during the transition period.

“The contributions and leadership of Cockman and Rice were very instrumental in supporting NSFA’s rapid growth and development. We could not have grown to our current status without the foresight and the support of IASB,” said Collogan.

Throughout the transition, the NSFA board focus is to maintain current services, explore new services and seek additional funding. The NSFA website address, mailing address, phone and fax numbers will remain the same.
