Networking to Strengthen Oklahoma’s Public Schools is the theme for the 2010 Fall Forum for Local Education Foundations, slated from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Oklahoma Memorial Union on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m.
Presented by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Local Education Foundation Outreach Program, the Fall Forum is the state’s premier event for school foundation leaders and school administrators seeking to improve the quality of public education in their communities. This year’s forum will feature a series of breakout sessions, followed by a luncheon with a keynote address by David L. Boren, founder and chairman of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.
?A special focus of this year’s Fall Forum is a full hour of breakout-session time devoted to networking,? said Fall Forum chair Suzanne Thompson of El Reno. ?Participants will have an opportunity to meet with other foundation leaders and administrators from their region to share ideas and discuss issues facing their districts. Foundation leaders have told us again and again that they want more time to network and meet with their counterparts from across the state.?
In addition, sessions are currently being planned on Best Practices for Successful Foundations,??Board Recruitment and Orientation, Building Credibility and Accountability in your Grant Program, Marketing for Your Foundation on the Web, Strategic Planning and Key Legal and Organizational Decisions for Non-Profits.?
The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence will present its Outstanding Program Awards to Local Education Foundations during the luncheon. The event will culminate in a special challenge to Oklahoma’s LEF leaders from Boren, who founded the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence in 1985 to strengthen private support for public education in Oklahoma. Through its outreach program, the Foundation for Excellence has helped build and support one of the nation’s largest networks of public school foundations, with 220 established to date in Oklahoma.
?Oklahoma’s local education foundations play a vital role in rallying community support for public education, said Karen Rose, OFE director of Local Education Foundation Outreach. ?We hope this year’s Fall Forum will provide foundation leaders with the tools and encouragement they need to help support their local schools during these difficult economic times.?
Fall Forum registration fees are $50 per person if received by Oct. 12 and $60 for late registration. For information, visit the foundation’s website at www.ofe.org or call Karen Rose, director of LEF Outreach, at (918) 743-5533.
